Birmingham Hippodrome’s Young Community Drop-In Sessions have been developed by our Young Advocates.
Suitable for anyone aged 14+, these sessions have been designed to be creative outlets for young people and offer spaces to relax, connect with others and feel welcome.
Each drop-in session invites some of the best people currently working in the creative industries to host workshops looking at a range of art forms, skills and careers.
The sessions are open to young people of all levels and abilities. We can offer support through a buddy system where you’ll be paired with someone from the Hippodrome or a Young Advocate, additional information about what to expect on the day, help with how to get to the building or anything else you may need. We will be offering the following workshops from 1pm:
Musical Theatre with CBS Dance Welcome Jenny Patrone from CBS Dance in London for this special workshop. If you’ve never tried dance before, this fun workshop is for you! CBS Dance offers a multitude of training in a supportive and encouraging environment. CBS is designed for performers who feel they would benefit from further dance training. With a specific method and structure, our approach to every class has each individual in mind. The heart of our core values all come down to our mission to help you build confidence. This workshop will be a basic introduction to Musical Theatre dance. You don’t need to have had any prior experience of performing to take part! |
Contemporary Dance with Linden Dance Linden Dance Company is an innovative professional dance company based in Birmingham, creating passionate and exciting new works. Directed by Christopher Radford and Sara Macqueen, the company champions positivity, individuality and free expression and blends positive physical and mental wellbeing training throughout areas of it’s work. Sara, a contemporary dancer originally from Wiltshire, will be leading this session. |
Physical Theatre with Francesca Robson Frankie is a Movement Director/Facilitator working primarily in community settings in and around Birmingham. Her practice focuses on how to tell stories through our bodies, capturing the City’s vibrancy and history through movement. Her past work has seen her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Warwick Arts Centre, Women & Theatre and Belgrade Theatre. |
Poetry/ Spoken Word with Adjei Sun Adjei Sun is a writer, multi-disciplinary artist, speaker, educator, community organiser and yoga teacher. As a writer and performer, Adjei Sun has performed nationally and internationally, including at the Dubai World Expo and BBC World Questions. Another one of his poems welcomed the baton for the Queen’s Baton Relay Birmingham Homecoming Celebration. As an educator, Adjei facilitates creative workshops to address stigma around mental health, help young people to express themselves, and make difficult concepts more accessible. As an organiser, Adjei Sun was awarded as a BBC 1Xtra Future Figure for his work in the communities that brings voices together to engage in conversations around who we are as humans and the worlds around us. |
