Post 16

We work with Post 16 settings in a number of ways to:

• Provide young people with opportunities to see shows and work with professional artists/creatives both in school and at Birmingham Hippodrome.
• Work on projects connected to the programme at Birmingham Hippodrome and other Post 16 settings across the city – where young people can be involved in launch days with cast members, perform on our stages and at our festivals.
• Give young people an insight into careers on and offstage, developing leadership skills, and supporting young people to see theatre as a viable option for them.
• Work with our New Work, New Musicals and Festivals Departments to attend R&Ds, rehearsals and gain an insight into how we make our own work.
• Support young people to be ambassadors for the arts in their Post 16 setting.
• Empower young people to become Birmingham Hippodrome Young Advocates, feeding into decision making at all levels of the organisation.
• Be part of the HEN Work Experience Programme. You can read more about the 2023 programme here.
• Take part in the HEN Young Choreographers Programme for those interested in dance and keen to explore opportunities outside of performing.
• Provide opportunities to audition for Curtain Raisers working with professional companies to make new work and perform on our stages. You can read more about our latest Curtain Raiser with Ailey 2 here.
• Offer bursary places for young people to attend our programmes outside of school.
• Provide schools and teachers with opportunities to connect with other schools and educators across the city/region.
