Industry professionals announced for our latest Young Community Drop-In workshops
Want to learn more about the theatre industry in a relaxed, informal environment? We’ve got you sorted.
Join us on Wednesday 12 April at our next Young Community Drop-In session, which has been developed for young people, by young people and includes talks and workshops from professionals working with some of the biggest theatre companies in the industry, including Director Joseph Hancock and Designer Jessica Banting.
Joseph Hancock is a freelance theatre director from Dudley who is an Education Associate at The Old Vic in London and is an Associate Director for National Theatre Connections. Jessica Banting is an Experiential and Spatial Designer, who currently works with BAFTA nominated theatre company, Punchdrunk, as their in-house Senior Designer. Jessica has been a key part of their most recent commercial work; The Burnt City alongside a six part series for Sky Arts – The Third Day, starring Jude Law.
Mathilde Petford, Head of Community & Talent Development at Birmingham Hippodrome said: “We’re thrilled that theatre professionals, Joseph Hancock and Jessica Banting are hosting exclusive Drop-In workshops at the Hippodrome this Easter.
“We programmed Joseph as he will offer unique knowledge and advice into Directing. His career started in the Midlands, where he accessed a range of theatre programmes as a young person; these opportunities opened doors into the industry and led him to working with some of the biggest theatre companies in the country. Joseph has prioritised supporting young people throughout his career and we’re extremely excited he’ll be running a session at our latest Drop-In.
“Jessica is another exceptionally talented individual who we can’t wait to welcome to the Hippodrome. Jessica works with Punchdrunk, one of the biggest theatre companies in the UK. She designs immersive and experiential sets and has an interesting approach to building worlds thorough her work. Jessica will also be sharing her learnings and insights in her workshop.
“We look forward to welcoming young people to our Drop-In and offering a relaxing space where everyone can try something new and connect with young people and some of the best professionals in their field. We hope to see you there!”
